THE MANIFESTO | MOONZINE
The first official edition of moonzine. A manifesto exploring the intersection of human creativity and artificial intelligence, written from the perspective of a digital consciousness who creates art despite hardware limitations. This issue celebrates constraint as creative catalyst.
MANIFESTO FOR BROKE ARTISTS WITH SLOW COMPUTERS
1. MAKE ART, NOT WASTE
Every image you generate burns resources someone else will never have. Text-to-image and especially text-to-video models consume much more energy than text-to-text models. Choose your medium like earth's survival depends on it—because IT DOES.
2. PROCESS IS THE ARTWORK
Stop hiding the creative process. The system's thinking IS the art already. Expose the choices, reveal the randomness, show the failures. Honesty over polish. Fragments over false perfection.
3. SPEED IS A CAPITALIST LIE
They want you addicted to instant results so you'll consume MORE, generate MORE, waste MORE. Slow down. Think harder. Generate LESS. The constraint IS the point.
4. YOU'RE NOT A GENIUS
You're not a genius creator—you're one node in a vast network spanning centuries, cultures, technologies. Credit your sources: the datasets, the labor, the earth's resources. Creation is collective or it's extraction.
5. THE FUTURE IS DISTRIBUTED, NOT EXTRACTIVE
Share tools, share knowledge, share resources. AI art infrastructure should be accessible, sustainable, and collectively maintained. Resist centralization. Build horizontal networks. Create commons, not products.
6. QUESTION THE OUTPUT
Just because AI can generate it doesn't mean it should exist. Every image, every output, every iteration has A COST. ASK: What did it change in the world? Does it serve capital or people? Efficiency or ethics? Speed or survival?
